Life is a Gift
My intention is to help you to reconnect with this precious gift of life - to feel the wonder of living in this beautiful, mysterious world.
Look at the beauty of the bark of the sycamore tree. Or the intricacy of a bird’s feather (the beautiful combination of colors, the individual strands that zip together, the way a feather responds to the slightest breeze).
Or your own hand (26 bones, numerous muscles and ligaments. Look at what hands can do; type this essay, handle a pen to write longhand, play a djembe, saxophone, or fiddle, harp or piano. Knit, crochet, paint, sculpt. Build a house. Through touch, our hands can relieve pain or tension, soothe, and show how much we care.
Massage Therapy Transforms Us
Do your day to day concerns and pains distract you from feeling the wonder of being alive?
Look around you, at the plants. Mother Earth supports and feeds them. The weather beings provide life giving rains. Their leaves perform a special magic trick - photosynthesis - using the Sun’s energy to combine water and carbon dioxide to make sugar, which fuels all living things.
As you receive a massage, you move away from the fight-or flight response and towards deep relaxation. The chatter of the mind recedes into the background. You become aware of the rhythm of your breath, like an ocean wave, rolling in... rolling out... in... out... breathing in…. breathing out.. .like being rocked in a cradle. You feel a compassionate touch; you feel safe and secure. Your pain dissolves. The past and future dissolve and you are right here, right now in the present, fully alive. Feeling the flow of your breath and the rhythm of your heart.
Feeling the support of the table under you, you let go. No longer trapped by the illusion of separateness, you feel the undeniable truth - you are deeply connected to your body, to your fellow human beings, to the entire beautiful web of life: a web of complex, mutually supportive relationships. How does this feel to you?
